European Mobility Week 2024 in Bonn: sharing road space

The European Mobility Week will take place again from September 16 to 22 - this year under the motto "Using street space together". The administration invites all Bonn residents to realize their creative street ideas during this week.

From raised beds to street festivals - together, the street on your doorstep can become a greener, more social and more liveable place, at least for a while. During this year's European Mobility Week, neighborhoods, associations and initiatives across Europe have the opportunity to implement their ideas for the joint use of public space in their street.

The city of Bonn has waived the fees normally incurred for the implementation of such non-profit street ideas for this purpose until further notice. This applies to a limited extent to projects for which public traffic space is used, such as the installation of raised beds or benches. However, road closures, public address permits or commercial uses are not covered by the exemption. With the fee waiver for street ideas in Bonn, the city is also responding to feedback from the public, some of whom had described these fees as a major hurdle to implementing their own ideas for street space.

The European Mobility Week

European Mobility Week is an annual action week organized by the European Commission since 2002. Every year, from September 16 to 22, innovative transport solutions can be tried out to promote sustainable mobility in local communities. So far, for example, parking spaces and road space have been repurposed, new footpaths and cycle paths inaugurated, electric vehicles tested, school competitions launched and campaigns for more climate protection in transport carried out. With this commitment, municipalities and their citizens are demonstrating that sustainable mobility is possible, fun and can be put into practice.
