Frankfurt am Main, Weimar and Bonn are the places in the history of German democracy where the great German constitutions of 1849, 1919 and 1949 were written. A joint workshop of the future network partners with the participation of the Bonn-Zentrum für Stadtgeschichte und Erinnerungskulturen took place in Weimar in September 2022.
To mark the 175th anniversary of the convening of the Frankfurt National Assembly in Frankfurt's Paulskirche, the network of places of democratic history is to be founded by signing a joint declaration. The aim of the network is a commitment to the common history of democracy, its research and communication as well as regular exchange between the network partners.
In addition to the opportunity to get involved in joint events and to enter into supra-regional cooperation and intensive exchange, the cooperation between the cities and regions is intended to send a strong signal for our democracy and the necessity of dealing with its history. The cities are united by the knowledge that democracy and society are confronted with major challenges and how difficult and necessary it is to preserve them.
The aim of the network is therefore also to actively shape democracy at a cultural, political and social level and to actively address the question of which path we want to take in our democracy.
