Bonn Heimat Prize 2025: the three winners have been announced

Monika Heimerzheim as an individual as well as the associations "ArbeiterKind.de" and the Bonn reading aloud network "MINTKiDS" were honored for their commitment.

For the seventh time, the City of Bonn is taking part in the North Rhine-Westphalia state government's funding program entitled "Starke Heimat Nordrhein-Westfalen" and awarding a Heimat Prize. Under the motto "The Heimat Prize: Making volunteer work visible", up to three individuals and/or organizations can be honoured as prize winners and awarded a total of 15,000 euros for their local, civic commitment.

The jury meeting has now taken place and the three winners have been announced: the Bonn Heimat Prize 2025 will be awarded to Monika Heimerzheim for her commitment to the Bonn Friends of Nature, the Bonn group of the ArbeiterKind.de association and MINTKiDS, the reading aloud network in Bonn.

The local Bonn group of the Naturefriends association is part of the Federal Association of Naturefriends Germany, a socio-ecological and socio-politically active association for environmental protection, soft tourism, sport & culture. The local Bonn group of the Arbeiterkind.de association aims to help pupils, students and their supporters from a non-academic background to obtain a university degree. "MINTKiDS" aims to combine the topics of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology (STEM) and language development by reading STEM stories aloud in Kita and elementary school, as well as actively promoting volunteer work in Bonn.

The prize money is awarded in different parts: Monika Heimerzheim will receive 7,000 euros in prize money for her commitment to the Naturfreunde Bonn association. The organization "ArbeiterKind.de" will receive 5,000 euros and "MINTKiDS" 3,000 euros in prize money. The Bonn Heimat Awards ceremony is planned for June 30, 2025 in the Old Town Hall.

The following areas are eligible for a commitment award:

  • Bonn as a city of the United Nations; home to people from all over the world;
