On Tuesday morning, March 18, 2025, the building regulations office inspected the façade of the residential and commercial building. The experts assume that other areas of the façade are no longer securely fastened. What caused the façade elements to fall down needs to be investigated in more detail. The property management company appointed by the owners of the building has already commissioned an architect, in consultation with a structural engineer, to assess the damage, secure the façade and then renovate it.
As soon as there is no longer any danger to the public, the existing closure of the public area can be lifted. Since Monday evening, two of the three existing lanes in this section of Kölnstraße are no longer available for traffic. Traffic coming from the north in the direction of the city center is being diverted via Stiftsplatz. In the opposite direction - coming from Bertha-von-Suttner-Platz in a northerly direction - the road can be used. With this traffic regulation, bus traffic can be maintained via Stiftsplatz.
The building regulations office is still in contact with the property management and will monitor the necessary safety measures on the façade of the building, in particular the renovation from the point of view of general hazard prevention.
