Primary school children plant tree in Tannenbusch

On Thursday, March 20, 2025, primary school children from the Carl-Schurz-Schule in the Tannenbusch district planted a silver willow at the pond in the northern green corridor with the help of the Office for the Environment and Urban Greenery. The children from mixed-age class D3 were very interested and eager to learn.

Some children came up with the idea of planting a tree during a walk through the district as part of a project day on sustainability. With the support of their class teacher, they contacted the city. At short notice, the Office for the Environment and Urban Greenery supported the project. It provided the tree, a silver willow, and showed the primary school children how to plant a tree properly.

Ludwig Klein and Rolf Dung from the Office for the Environment and Urban Greenery welcomed the primary school children and their teachers in the morning at the pond of Grünzug Nord in the Tannenbusch district and informed them about the individual steps involved in planting trees. The children were allowed to get to work themselves with shovels. They helped to dig the hole for planting the silver willow. The children not only learned a lot about tree planting, but also, for example, why trees are important for the environment and nature.
