The Bonn City Council approved both the preliminary design and the cost estimate on March 14, 2024. In future, the Astrid Lindgren School on Chemnitzer Weg will have 17 day rooms, eight differentiation rooms, two open learning areas and a canteen. There will also be team, administration, storage and technical rooms. Chemnitzer Weg, which currently still serves as a branch of Tannenbusch Grammar School, already has several existing buildings. The main building will be extensively modernized. In addition, a new extension will be built, which will be connected to the existing building. The varsity building, the toilet facilities and the janitor's bungalow will be demolished.
The main entrance to the existing building will be barrier-free thanks to a new ramp in the outdoor facilities. All entrances to the new extension will also be barrier-free; the building will have an elevator across all floors as well as several disabled toilets. The two-storey connecting building will also provide barrier-free access to the existing building via the elevator. In addition to the structural requirements for people in wheelchairs, the needs of hearing and visually impaired people are also taken into account.
Once completed, both the renovated existing building and the new extension will at least meet the requirements for a KFW or ground floor efficiency building 40 and will be equipped with ventilation and air conditioning systems with heat recovery. The complex is and will continue to be heated by district heating. A combination of a green roof and photovoltaic system is planned for the flat roof of the extension. The existing building will also have a green roof, which will be supplemented with photovoltaic modules in the area of the monopitch roofs.
In addition, the entire outdoor area of the future Astrid-Lindgren-Förderschule will be redesigned. The schoolyard will be equipped with play areas and equipment. A total of 96 bicycle and 18 scooter parking spaces will be created in the new schoolyard.
The total cost of the construction project is estimated at around 22.4 million euros. This includes a risk premium of 15.4 percent and a construction cost increase of six percent per year. The funds are budgeted in the business plan of the Bonn Municipal Building Management (SGB).
