Digital information event on the Cologne-Niederkassel-Bonn light rail project

With a light rail line between Niederkassel and its metropolitan neighbors, another important light rail connection on the right bank of the Rhine (line 17) is to be created between Cologne and Bonn. To present this extensive light rail project in more detail, the City of Cologne's Mobility Department and its project partners are organizing a digital information evening.

This will take place on Wednesday, 29 March 2023, from 6.30 pm via livestream at  www.dreimeister.tv/informationsveranstaltung. Among (opens in a new tab) others, Christian Dörkes, Deputy Head of the Office for Sustainable Mobility Development of the City of Cologne and Head of Department for Integrated Mobility Planning, Dr. Christoph Groneck, Project Manager for Local Transport Planning at the Rhein-Sieg district, and Alexander Juffa, Head of Urban Transport Planning and Public Transport at the City of Bonn, will provide information on the planning status and explain what is in store for this light rail project in the coming years. The audience will have the opportunity to ask questions or make suggestions in writing and anonymously via live chat. After the presentations, these will be answered collectively by the expert speakers.

Well-developed local public transport is crucial for attractive and environmentally friendly mobility in the future. An important regional building block for this is the Cologne-Niederkassel-Bonn light rail project, which the City of Cologne is planning together with the City of Bonn, the Rhein-Sieg district and the district towns of Niederkassel and Troisdorf. The light rail connection (line 17) between Cologne and Bonn via Niederkassel is modeled on lines 16 and 18 on the left bank of the Rhine.

In addition, the new line can also connect the south of Cologne on the left and right bank of the Rhine, as it is to be linked to line 7 of the Cologne Transport Authority (KVB). As an important milestone for the project, the Rhein-Sieg district received a grant of around 5.2 million euros from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in mid-January for planning services.
