This approach offers decisive advantages: By awarding the contract to an experienced general planner, the city expects synergy effects that will both improve the quality of the planning and simplify coordination processes. In addition, holistic planning from a single source is intended to ensure more efficient implementation of the project. This not only saves time, but should also minimize the risk of delays.
In order to reopen the Melbbad, the construction of a single-storey, functional building for changing rooms, sanitary facilities with toilets and showers, storage, technical and staff rooms and the renewal of the swimming pool technology, which has been defective since 2020, are planned. In view of the city-wide goal of climate neutrality, the new building is also to be powered by renewable energy.
Once the tendering process has been completed and the contract awarded, which is planned for the end of 2025, the preliminary and design planning can finally begin. The planning will now be presented to the political committees and, according to the currently envisaged schedule, construction could begin at the end of 2027.
