Overall, Bornheimer Strasse will be significantly upgraded: Away from a pure thoroughfare to a modern city street with a high quality of living and life in Nordstadt. The city administration wants to significantly improve the quality of life through wider sidewalks, accessibility, more peace and quiet and more greenery. In future, road users will benefit from increased safety and better local mobility.
At present, the asphalt is still broken up in many places on the construction site and road users have to make their way between the construction pits on the one-way street from the city center to Ellerstrasse. To give the people of Bonn, especially local residents, an idea of the new Bornheimer Straße, the city administration has had visualizations created that show what the street will look like in the future.
From Friday, March 1, 2024, two visualizations of the new Bornheimer Straße will be shown at four locations on the construction site. Sections of Bornheimer Straße can be seen after its completion; on the one hand at the police station and on the other at Eifelstraße.
At the same time, the city administration has already launched a website at www.bonn.de/bornheimer-strasse (opens in a new tab), which provides information about the project, construction progress and detours. The visualizations can also be viewed there.
In January 2023, the civil engineering office, Bonn-Netz GmbH and Deutsche Telekom began replacing all the important supply lines. The construction teams are renewing the entire infrastructure for district heating, gas, water, energy supply and telecommunications and adapting it to future requirements. The major underground renovation will be followed by the redesign of the streetscape with a new cross-section. At the beginning of 2025, Bornheimer Strasse will be completed with a completely new appearance, adapted to today's modern requirements.
