Council creates conditions for expansion of Clara-Schumann-Gymnasium

The Bonn City Council has laid the foundations for the construction of additional classrooms and a gymnasium at Clara-Schumann-Gymnasium in Südstadt. At its meeting on February 9, 2023, it approved development plan no. 6621-2.

The plan area is approximately 8,000 square meters in size and is located between Loestraße, Bonner Talweg, Königstraße and Prinz-Albert-Straße. As part of the return to G9 (Abitur after 13 years of schooling), 13 additional classrooms and further gymnasium capacities need to be created. These are to be realized by the 2026/2027 school year. This requires the renovation or new construction of the science rooms and a second gymnasium as well as the expansion of the administration area.

None of these expansion measures can be realized on the basis of the existing planning law. For this reason, development plan no. 6621-2 has been adopted, which will replace development plan no. 7721-1 when it is published.

Around 1,000 pupils currently attend the Clara-Schumann-Gymnasium, which was founded in 1912 as the first public girls-only grammar school in the city of Bonn. Boys have also been taught there since 1973. The grammar school is characterized by a wide range of foreign languages with an international network.
