The "Design Technical Assistant" is a modern, practice-oriented training occupation that involves developing and arranging the graphic-artistic design of products. After three years and three months, the full-time school-based training concludes with a double qualification.

Pupils acquire the general higher education entrance qualification and the vocational qualification "state-certified design assistant".

Prerequisite: Intermediate school leaving certificate (Fachoberschulreife FOR) with the entitlement to attend the gymnasiale Oberstufe, G8-Gymnasium after grade 9.

The course lasts 3 years and 3 months. Years 12 and 13 are the qualification phase for the Abitur. At the end of year 13, students successfully pass their final examination to obtain the general higher education entrance qualification. After year 14 (4 months), students successfully pass the final vocational examination to obtain the vocational qualification "state-certified design assistant". During the training, a total of 2 work placements take place in a company in the media industry. The first 4-week work placement usually takes place during the summer vacation between the 12th and 13th grades. After the Abitur, students complete an 8-week work placement. The internships can also be carried out in a media company abroad.

Design assistants work in advertising and multimedia agencies, for online service providers and providers, in media companies, software houses or advertising and marketing companies in trade and industry.
