"With the company, we are creating the expertise within the city group to drive forward important urban development projects ourselves. The urban development company will help us to develop our areas in a high-quality manner - climate-neutral, with affordable housing and ecologically valuable," says Mayor Katja Dörner, emphasizing the importance of the new GmbH.
The Chairman of the Management Board of Stadtwerke Bonn, Olaf Hermes, emphasizes the synergy effects between the urban development company and Stadtwerke: "For us, as Bonner Klimawerke, renewable energies, environmentally friendly mobility solutions and future-oriented urban development go hand in hand. I am therefore very pleased that we can contribute our diverse expertise to the company."
Tasks of the new company
The new company is intended to promote the economic, sustainable and climate-friendly development of urban land and existing buildings in the city of Bonn. This includes, in particular, providing the City of Bonn with sustainable, climate-friendly and barrier-free residential and commercial space. The company is to develop existing urban properties and purchase suitable properties as part of a land supply policy. In the future, the company should also be able to support the energy-efficient refurbishment of neighborhoods as part of the climate plan.
The first project is to be "Im Rosenfeld" in Buschdorf
The development of the urban area "Im Rosenfeld" in the district of Buschdorf in the north of Bonn is to be defined as the initial project. The approximately 18-hectare Rosenfeld comprises the area between the 555 freeway, the city limits of Bornheim, the route of the Cologne-Bonn light rail line and Schickgasse. Most of the land is owned by the city. The aim is to create a "model quarter" with affordable housing that also meets the highest energy standards. At the same time, the company is also considering becoming involved in the "Neues Quartier Bundesviertel" project.
Entry in the commercial register expected in January
The first task of the newly elected ten-member Supervisory Board is to find a suitable management team for the company. The administration has already initiated the search for a suitable personnel consultancy. A person with relevant previous experience in the development of projects is to be sought.
The city hopes that the district government will approve the formation of the company before the end of 2023 so that it can be entered in the commercial register as early as January 2024.
