City renovates playground on Heilsbachstraße in Medinghoven

The playground on Heilsbachstraße will become a special place: a volcanic landscape is planned, including a crater and lava flows, with climbing ropes and a play wall. The city will begin dismantling the old play area and sandpit on Tuesday, April 9, 2025.

Volcanic landscape and sandpit

The 580 square meter playground is due to be completed by July 2025. The site is located on a steep slope. The city is using the natural height difference of around three meters in its planning: A volcanic landscape is to be created, recreated by a colorful plastic floor with painted craters and lava flows. A sandpit will be created down the slope. There is already a large tree here that will provide shade for the children.

City takes residents' wishes into account

The city takes the wishes of local residents into account during the renovation. In a participation campaign in 2022, the residents of Medinghoven contributed their ideas for the playground. The result: climbing ropes, climbing stones and nets as well as an inclusive play wall offer variety for exercise and play. Those not playing will find a variety of seating options on benches and greywacke paving stones.

The refurbishment cost around 185,000 euros.
