The city is advancing the planning for this important project step by step: a cooperation agreement has currently been concluded with Stadtwerke Bonn, fine adjustments have been made to the route and test drillings have been carried out in the subsoil and a series of (preliminary) investigations have been commissioned or prepared. The next step is to commission the planning team with external project management and specialist planning.
"Alongside the Westbahn, the cable car is currently our most important expansion for strong local transport in Bonn. Around 15,000 people per day will use this innovative means of transportation in the future. The cable car is particularly environmentally friendly, as it requires hardly any space in the city, is quiet and has no impact on air quality," explains Mayor Katja Dörner. The city administration now wants to enter into a dialog with the people who live closest to the future route of the cable car. The city of Bonn is thus focusing on an early dialog with those concerned even before the planning approval procedure is initiated or construction work begins.
Katja Dörner comments: "We want to get in touch with residents living along the cable car route at an early stage. That is why we are organizing a residents' forum for this target group. On the one hand, we want to report on new findings and measures and, on the other, facilitate an open exchange."
Confirmations of participation will be sent out by April 17
In order to attract only those interested in the discussion, the Citizen Participation Office wrote to around 2,000 residents living in the zip code areas 53113, 53127, 53129 and 53227. The 14 to 17-year-olds were a special target group, with 500 people also receiving an invitation. The forum provides for a maximum of 120 places in total; ten percent of the places are to go to younger people. Three weeks before the event, the number of registrations already exceeds capacity, so that a lottery will decide on participation. The city administration will send out the final confirmations of participation by April 17 at the latest.
The forum will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bürgerverein Dottendorf/Gronau, Dottendorfer Straße 37, 53129 Bonn. Participation is only possible after successful registration!
In addition, the City of Bonn is planning further events in the future that are tailored to the needs and questions of Bonn residents.
Background
In future, the cable car will be an important shortcut and cross-connection in the city's public transport network, linking districts on the right and left bank of the Rhine with a high population and employment density. The planned route will link important transfer points such as Deutsche Bahn stations, light rail and streetcar stops and create a fast connection to the University Hospital facilities on the Venusberg. It would be the first urban cable car in Germany that is integrated into the local public transport system and can be used with a normal local public transport ticket such as the Deutschlandticket. The project is being jointly managed by the City of Bonn and Stadtwerke Bonn.
