Historical view of the Soennecken company premises

"F. SOENNECKEN's" stationery and office world

In cooperation with the Poppelsdorf Local History Museum, the Bonn City Museum looked back on a special chapter in Bonn's economic history.

There are only a few Bonn companies that have achieved a worldwide reputation. One of these is certainly the company "F. SOENNECKEN" from Poppelsdorf, a manufacturer of office equipment and furniture. For almost 100 years, it was a major employer and helped to shape the economic development of Bonn.

Friedrich Soennecken (1848-1919) had developed a new typeface early on, which he popularized in a publishing house. The idea of developing writing instruments for this typeface was soon born.

In 1876, Friedrich Soennecken moved to Bonn and gradually built up a production facility for nibs in Poppelsdorf. The product range soon expanded to include nib pens, fountain pens, hole punches and the first copying machines. The company expanded continuously and the huge company complex between Kirschallee and Jagdweg grew steadily. Later, a newly built factory building in "Soenneckenfeld" (Bonn-West) was added for furniture production. "SOENNECKEN's" office world became a brand name and the company exported all over the world. The company was also able to recover after the Second World War, but then lost touch in the 1960s and had to close.
