Sections 175/175a StGB were liberalized for the first time in 1969. And it was not until 1994, as a result of German reunification, that § 175 StGB was finally repealed. To mark the occasion, the Centrum Schwule Geschichte Köln and the Förderverein Centrum Schwule Geschichte presented an exhibition on the history of anti-homosexual legislation in Germany. The basic lines of the historical development were repeatedly broken down to the area of today's North Rhine-Westphalia.
The exhibition thus set the first markers for a comprehensive reappraisal of the LGBT*IQ history of Germany's largest and most populous federal state, which is still pending. Sections 175/175a RStGB/StGB were the most visible and effective state instrument of repression against same-sex life, with repercussions for trans and intersex people.
Knowledge of its history is therefore not only relevant for gay people, but also for lesbians, bisexuals, trans*, inter* and queer people.
The exhibition was organized in cooperation with the Bonn City Museum, the Bonn City Archives, the Bonn Memorial and the Bonn University Museum.
