The Department for Urban Development and Strategic Projects is the central internal coordination office for funding within the city administration. The department uses a national and international network to accomplish its tasks. In Germany, colleagues from the Municipal Funding Working Group are available to help. In Brussels, working contacts with the EU Commission and the EUROCITIES network of cities provide further assistance.

The Department for Urban Development and Strategic Projects offers the following services

• Initiation and implementation of funding projects
• Participation in funded projects or projects to be funded
• Support with applications
• Involvement of potential project partners (stakeholders)
• Training and further education
• Implementation of municipal vocational training programs as part of the EU project "EurOpen"
• Arranging European internships as part of the EU project "Nice to work with you!"
• Project-related public relations work (production of information leaflets, organization of specialist lectures and events)
• Organization and support of specialist delegations from the EU project partner cities
