The number of children affected by neglect, violence or abuse is alarmingly high. Schools are the only institution in Germany that sees all children almost every day. This means that, particularly in everyday school life, there may be indications that a child's well-being may be at risk. A strange gut feeling, a moment of suspicion or even concrete indications of danger often create uncertainty, concern and high pressure to act among school staff. School administrators in particular have a high degree of responsibility to jointly assess the situation and act prudently in the event of a child protection incident.
This cooperation event between the school psychology department, the Office for Children, Youth and Family and the Bonn Child Protection Network aims to strengthen school administrators at primary and special schools in their professional approach to child protection. The aim is to impart basic knowledge and to deepen this knowledge in practical exercises.

Two half days of training will cover the following topics:

Day I: 23.05.2025, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.: Legal basis and procedure in suspected cases

• Clarification of the term "child welfare/child endangerment"
• (Legal) principles of school action
• Risk assessment process and options for action

Day II: 06.06.2025, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.: Conducting discussions in child protection cases

• Conducting conversations in child protection cases (child and guardian)
• Exercises for conducting conversations in role play
• Reflection on your own professional role
