Walking is not only healthy for body and mind, but also ecologically and socially compatible. This is why the city of Bonn is promoting walking with various measures.
In 2024, it also took part in the nationwide health campaign "Stadt Land zu Fuß" for the first time.
Similar to the established cycling competition "STADTRADELN", in which the city of Bonn has been successfully participating for years, the "Stadt Land zu Fuß" campaign pits municipalities and districts against each other to cover as many kilometers as possible on foot as a city community within a certain period of time.
By taking part in the campaign, the city of Bonn wants to encourage people to get out and about more on foot. After all, walking is good for your health and also protects the climate. Whether it's the way to school, to work, walking, hiking or jogging in your free time - all citizens were invited to take part and digitally record the kilometers they walked.
Bonn residents collect over 16,000 kilometers
During the campaign period from 1 to 21 November 2024, the 200 active participants in Bonn collected and digitally recorded over 16,000 kilometers walked for the city community. This puts Bonn in 15th place nationwide among the participating cities/districts. In order to ensure a fair comparison between the municipalities, the "kilometers per inhabitant" rating was used.
The largest team with the most kilometers walked was the Bonn city administration with 53 people. Many other teams were provided by private individuals, foundations, private employers and initiatives. Two school classes from GGS Medinghoven and Johanniter Pflegeschule also took part, impressively demonstrating how important it is to promote and practise independent mobility from an early age.
The city of Bonn would like to thank everyone for their participation. Not only did you achieve a successful ranking for the city of Bonn, you also did your health a great service!
The City of Bonn would like to take part in the "Stadt Land zu Fuß" campaign again in 2025 so that the enthusiasm for walking continues to grow.
