Infection occurs with the most common types of worms through ingestion of worm eggs via the mouth. Worm eggs can be found on contaminated food such as vegetables and fruit close to the ground, raw or semi-raw meat, in the soil, in the sand (e.g. in the playground) or on animal fur.
Please note that pinworms do not necessarily pose a serious health risk and can be controlled quickly with the right treatment. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact your pediatrician.
