Youth employment protection

Child labor is generally prohibited in Germany. However, there are limited employment opportunities for children aged 13 and over and young people of compulsory school age.

Children and young people need special protection

The legal regulations on this can be found in the Youth Employment Protection Act (JArbSchG). The district governments decide on exceptions to the ban on child labor upon application (§ 6 JArbSchG). The local youth welfare offices are also involved in this procedure.

The Office for Children, Youth and Family Affairs works together with the Cologne district government on the subject of child labor protection and, in particular, takes a position on the employment of children in productions and performances in the media and cultural sector.

You require a special permit for this type of employment for your child. If this authorization has been signed by the doctor and the school, it can be scanned and emailed to the Office for Children, Youth and Family Affairs/Youth Protection. If you do not have this option, please contact us by telephone.

You can obtain an examination authorization certificate here

Applications can only be submitted online via the City of Bonn's service portal.
