School transportation

School travel costs are generally reimbursed in accordance with the School Travel Costs Ordinance (SchfkVO). These entitlements take precedence over benefits from the education package.

Therefore, if necessary, please first apply for the benefit via the school secretariat of the school your child attends. Reimbursement under the education package can only be considered if there is no entitlement under the School Transport Costs Ordinance (SchfkVO) or if a personal contribution is payable for the journey to school and the following conditions are met:

  • The assumption of school transport costs is linked to attendance at the nearest school of the chosen course of education.
  • It is granted to pupils up to the age of 25 who attend a general or vocational school, do not receive a training allowance, are dependent on the necessary school transport and do not receive the costs from another source.

The costs to the nearest school are covered if the (shortest, reasonable) one-way journey to school exceeds a certain distance. This is more than two kilometers for elementary school, more than 3.5 kilometers for secondary level 1 and more than five kilometers for secondary level 2. If a school further away is attended, the reasons for this must be given. In cases where this school was chosen for personal reasons, it is not possible to cover the costs.

Which documents must be submitted?

The following documents are required:

  • Notice of rejection in accordance with the School Travel Costs Ordinance(SchfkVO)
  • Proof of the actual costs (e.g. by submitting invoices, payment receipts or copies of the monthly ticket)
  • Indication of the name of the school attended
  • If applicable, justification as to why the nearest school of the chosen course of education is not attended.
