1. target
The City of Bonn strives to preserve the characteristic features of its cityscape and the values inherited from the past.
For this reason, it holds a competition every two years in which prizes are awarded for the best renovations carried out during the calendar year on historic façades and/or façades worthy of preservation.
The city announces the facade competition in an appropriate manner.
2. group of participants
The façade competition is open to anyone who has had a façade renovation
- by a third party (craftsman's business) or
or
- has carried out the work themselves.
Participants who do not own the building must provide proof that they have borne all the costs of the renovation(or carried out the work themselves).
Prerequisites for participation in the façade competition are
- the house is located in the city of Bonn
- the renovation work has been completed within the last 24 months.
3. registration
Applications to take part in the façade competition should be sent to the Mayor of Bonn - Urban Planning Office. It must include
- the exact address
⇒ of the building
⇒ of the participant - the period of renovation and the date of completion
- the tradesman who carried out the work or a declaration that the façade was renovated by the participant. A digital photo of the new façade must also be submitted. With the application, the rights to the non-commercial use of the submitted photo, for example for posters, brochures, press publications and websites, are transferred to the City of Bonn.
The closing date for applications is September 30 of each odd-numbered calendar year.
4th evaluation
The facades submitted will be assessed by a jury, which should include
- Representatives of the State Conservator
- Representative of the Chamber of Architects
- Representative of the Chamber of Crafts
- Representatives of the city administration
The jury members elect a chairman from among their number, whose vote counts double in the event of a tie. The jury should consist of at least three members.
4.1 Procedure
A jury meeting will be held to decide on the prize-worthiness of the applications based on the photos submitted of the facades entered for the competition. The documents and photos will be made available to the jury members in sufficient time before the meeting to give them the opportunity to view and assess them on site.
4.2 Evaluation criteria
The following evaluation criteria apply to the jury's decision:
- Stylistic appropriateness of the renovation
- Appropriateness of the renovation
- Harmony of shapes and colors
- Overall impression
5. award
The jury determines the total number of prizes within the framework of the available prize money and can set their individual amounts.
Buildings owned by the public sector do not receive cash prizes.
Legal recourse is excluded.
6. entry into force
These guidelines come into force retroactively as of January 1, 2016.
