Children and young people have rights - action days start in Bonn

Ten days - ten children's rights: from September 11 to 20, 2024, Bonn is celebrating children's and young people's rights with activities, workshops and creative offers. Mayor Katja Dörner welcomes children and young people to the Old Town Hall at the end of the event.

The city of Bonn is working with children and young people to provide information about children's rights. After the premiere of the Children's Rights Weeks in 2023, the "Ten Days - Ten Rights" action days will now follow from September 11 to 20, 2024. The Children's and Youth Rights Action Days offer a wide range of events for children, young people, families and all interested parties. The aim is to raise awareness of the importance of children's rights, educate children and young people about their rights and make it clear to adults that they are responsible for implementing them. The action days also offer numerous institutions that are committed to children's rights the opportunity to introduce themselves.

"I am delighted that the Children's Rights Action Days are taking place on the way to World Children's Day on September 20," said Mayor Katja Dörner. "The fact that so many different organizations are taking part this year clearly shows how important it is in Bonn to strengthen the rights of children and young people and to make their voices heard. I would therefore like to expressly thank everyone involved for their commitment," continued the Mayor.

The Municipal Youth Welfare Office and the Social Justice Program Office have prepared the action days together with the Bonn Child Protection Association, the UNICEF Bonn Working Group and the Diakonisches Werk and designed an attractive program with numerous actors. From district festivals to workshops and reading afternoons, there is something for all children and young people.

Free admission to the indoor pool, children's rally and dancing

During the campaign day from September 11 to 20, 2024, children and young people under the age of 18 have free admission to the city of Bonn's outdoor and indoor swimming pools: until Sunday, September 15, 2024 at the Hardtbergbad, Römerbad, Ennertbad and Rüngsdorf outdoor pools, and from Monday, September 16, 2024 at Bonn's Frankenbad and Beueler Bütt indoor pools. On World Children's Day, September 20, 2024, minors can also use buses and trains free of charge. The Polylino app can be used free of charge until the end of the year. Polylino is an easy-to-use app for the versatile promotion of reading in educational institutions and families. More than 1,700 books are available for download. In addition to the German written version of the book, the app offers audio in more than 70 languages and German sign language (DGS) for more than 20 books. Info at  www.bonn.de/polylino. The Unicef University Group invites you to a children's rights rally. During the interactive city tour, the young participants learn about children's and young people's rights and child-friendly places in Bonn in a fun way. Dance workshops are offered by Tanzhaus Bonn and the Coco Dance Studio, while Theater Marabu presents the play "Was ist da eigentlich" by the children's ensemble Marabu inklusiv. The workshops on media use by young people, setting boundaries without violating them and child protection are aimed at professionals and parents. All offers with dates and registration options can be found at  https://www.bonn.de/aktionstage-kinderrechte (opens in a new tab)

During the campaign days, the information screens in the subway stations will also draw attention to the offer. There will also be a clip in the Woki. The city of Bonn would like to thank the cinema for showing the clip free of charge. Anyone traveling on the 66 line during the campaign days could be in for a little surprise when the stops are announced. At the end of the campaign weeks and on World Children's Day, Mayor Katja Dörner invites you to the "parlor" of the city of Bonn: she welcomes children and young people who have dealt with children's rights during the campaign period to the Old Town Hall and talks to them about children's rights.
