As many children and young people use the bridge as a route to school, the renovation will take place during the vacation period from Monday, October 14, 2024. Due to considerable signs of wear on the bridge superstructure, the structure will be repaired in parts. Essentially, the existing wooden deck superstructure will be replaced with a new superstructure made of prefabricated reinforced concrete elements and the existing railings will be replaced with new, galvanized and coated steel railings. The superstructure and abutments will also be replaced. The substructures of the bridge, however, are in good condition.
The bridge will have to be completely closed for the work. To ensure that installation can take place during the fall vacations, the reinforced concrete parts have been prefabricated to size in the factory and will be lifted into place on site using a mobile crane. If everything goes according to plan, the bridge can be reopened at the end of the fall vacations, probably on Saturday, October 26, 2024. Weather-related delays are possible.
The construction costs amount to around 120,000 euros.
