Getting to know museums as exciting places to learn and experience and gaining access to cultural education - that's what the Bonn museum curriculum is all about. The unique educational program started as a pilot project in 2008 and is aimed at elementary school. After fifteen successful years of implementation, it is now available in a revised and further developed version. The eight participating museums and the Regional Education Office of the City of Bonn presented this to interested primary school teachers at the Kunstmuseum Bonn on Wednesday, November 13, 2024.
Eight museums take part in the Bonn museum curriculum
Eight museums in Bonn now take part in this program: the Kunstmuseum Bonn, the Stadtmuseum Bonn, the Beethoven-Haus Bonn, the Deutsches Museum Bonn, the LVR-Landesmuseum Bonn, the Haus der Geschichte der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, the Museum Koenig Bonn and the August-Macke-Haus. In order to introduce children to museum culture and education, a curriculum has been developed that is tailored to the four primary school years and builds on each other, in line with the educational offerings of Bonn's museums. Elementary school that participate in the Bonn Museum Curriculum conclude a cooperation agreement with the Regional Education Office of the City of Bonn. The schools thus incorporate the Bonn museum curriculum into their school program and enable each child to visit one museum per school year. This enables pupils to acquire valuable skills over four years, enabling them to independently explore extracurricular places of learning and actively make use of cultural offerings.
Carli the mole accompanies you to the museum
The mascot of the Bonn museum curriculum is also new: a small, curious mole who accidentally digs his way into a museum and from then on discovers the diversity of the exhibitions. This child-friendly mascot accompanies pupils on their journeys of discovery and creates a playful connection to the world of museums.
In addition, free teaching materials are now available to download, which enable targeted preparation and follow-up of museum visits in the classroom. This allows teachers to optimally integrate the museum visits into their lessons and deepen the pupils' experiences.
