City of Bonn

Council adopts 2023/2024 double budget

At its meeting on April 27, 2023, the Bonn City Council adopted the 2023/2024 double budget. The budget, which comprises around 1.7 billion euros per year, secures the City of Bonn's ability to act, sets different priorities and provides scope for shaping various future topics.

For example, the city will provide considerable financial resources for climate protection this year and next year on the way to a climate-neutral Bonn by 2035. The double budget also provides funds for the expansion and redesign of local public transport, cycling and walking infrastructure. In addition, there will be investments in the redesign and urban upgrading of traffic areas.

The city will expand digital services for citizens and process digitization, strengthen IT security and invest in urban data management. It will focus on various social issues, such as the student ticket and social ticket, support for independent daycare providers, school breakfasts, OGSplus, overcoming homelessness, the Bonn ID card and integration assistance.

The budget is expected to close with a deficit of 42 million euros in 2023 and a deficit of around 43 million euros in 2024.

In order to be able to submit a balanced double budget to the Cologne district government, the trade tax will be raised from the current 490 to 537 points from 2024. The accommodation tax will increase by one percentage point to six percent of the overnight stay fee and will also be extended to business travelers. The second residence tax will be increased from 12 to 13 percent of the annual net cold rent.
