Due to its close proximity to the city center and the limited space available, Nordstadt is one of the districts with increased parking pressure. Residents often have to search for a parking space for a long time because of the vehicles parked there, often coming from outside. The sidewalks in the district are far too narrow in places. People in wheelchairs, parents with baby carriages or residents with large shopping bags can hardly get past the parked cars in some places or have problems avoiding oncoming vehicles. The passage of emergency vehicles is also not always guaranteed due to blocked and narrow lanes.
Two resident parking areas
In order to improve the situation for both stationary and moving traffic for residents, almost all areas of Nordstadt will be managed in future. Residents can obtain a resident parking permit for this purpose, which entitles them to park in the designated parking spaces within the respective resident parking area I (west of the Hochstadenring/Kaiser-Karl-Ring) or D (east of the Hochstadenring/Kaiser-Karl-Ring) (see map).
The Nordstadt parking space concept applies to the entire area between Kölnstraße in the north, Oxfordstraße in the east, Thomastraße in the south and Dorotheenstraße and Ellerstraße in the west. Due to the lower parking pressure, the residential area north of Lievelingsweg is exempt from parking space management for the time being.
Parking space seekers coming from outside the area will require a paid parking ticket from the start of parking management. Around 75 parking ticket machines will be put into operation for this purpose.
Information on the resident parking permit
The parking area is expected to be opened in October. This will take place when the parking ticket machines go into operation after the necessary work has been completed in the entire area. The city will make it possible to apply for a resident parking permit a little in advance of completion. The exact date will be announced in another press release.
There will be a grace period for the first ten weeks after the parking area is opened: During this time, residents will be able to park without a parking permit until their application is processed. All they have to do is leave the confirmation email of the application visible behind the windshield.
The regular price for the permit is 360 euros per year, i.e. around one euro per vehicle per day. Anyone in possession of a Bonn ID card pays 90 euros. The pass can also be applied for for just six months or for two years. The costs are halved or doubled accordingly.
The resident parking permit can be applied for either online at https://service.bonn.de, (opens in a new tab) by post or by email to parkausweisbonnde. Eligible to apply are persons whose main residence is registered in the resident parking area, who own a vehicle that is registered to them or can be proven to be permanently leased to them and who do not have a garage or other parking facility. Only one resident parking permit may be issued per person. Tradespeople or legal entities are not eligible to apply. Craft businesses or care services that are in possession of a craft parking permit can also use the residents' parking spaces with this permit without further ado. It should be easier for them to find a parking space in future, as the overall parking pressure will decrease.
