Overview
The online ID card enables you to complete digitally offered administrative and business services online. Online ID is made possible by a chip in your ID card, provided the online ID is activated. For citizens who were 16 years or older when they applied, this chip has been activated by default since 2017.
If this function is deactivated on your ID card and you are aged 16 or over, you can have the online ID activated free of charge at your local ID card office. There you set your own six-digit PIN and receive the blocking password for your online ID card from the authority.
Only with your own PIN will your online ID card be technically ready for use and can be used for online identification.
You can also reset your PIN there. A personal appointment is required for this service. Please book the appointment "Switch on eID / Set PIN / Change PIN".
