The Fire and Rescue Service Office performs the tasks of local disaster control for the city of Bonn.

This includes the tasks of protecting the population in the event of tension and defence (civil defence), for which the federal government is responsible, as well as the management of major emergencies (peacetime disaster control) on behalf of the state.

In addition to the professional and volunteer fire departments, a number of organizations (with predominantly volunteer helpers) as well as the Federal Agency for Technical Relief and, under certain conditions, the Federal Armed Forces and Federal Police are involved in carrying out the tasks.
