International species protection - issuing EU certificates for Annex A species

Overview

Appendix A species are species threatened with extinction that are affected by trade and are therefore listed in Appendix I of the Washington Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, as well as species that the European Union considers to be in such demand in international trade that any trade would jeopardize the survival of the species. There is therefore a general ban on the marketing of these species, such as various species of tortoise, certain species of parrot and some species of giant snake.

An EU certificate can be applied for, in particular for the marketing (purchase/sale) of offspring, which represents an exception to the marketing ban.
