Bee colonies - registration, obligation to notify, migration certificate

Overview

Every beekeeper is obliged to notify the City of Bonn's Veterinary and Food Inspection Office of the exact location of the apiary and the average number of colonies kept each year before commencing beekeeping activities.
The bee population must also be registered with the NRW Animal Disease Insurance Fund.

If bee purchases, transports or migrations beyond the city/district borders are planned, the colonies must be accompanied by a health certificate from the veterinary and food monitoring office responsible for the place of origin of the bees. The health certificate must be submitted to the veterinary office responsible for the new location.

American foulbrood, infestation with the small hive beetle (Aethina tumida) and infestation with the Tropilaelaps mite must be reported. Any suspicion of an outbreak of these diseases must be reported to the Veterinary and Food Inspection Office of the City of Bonn.

To test the bees for malignant foulbrood, samples of forage can be sent to Mayen.
The necessary containers will be provided by Mayen. Wild swarms of bees can be captured by a beekeeper after consultation with the veterinary office.
