In 2018, the Bonn City Council, in cooperation with the Rhine-Sieg district, the district of Ahrweiler and the district of Neuwied, set up a "Bonn/Berlin Office" whose task is to prepare a new "Bonn Treaty" to secure the future of the region and to implement the resulting measures and projects.
The Bonn Agreement offers the region and the two states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate the opportunity to continue the successful structural change in the region into the future and to contractually counteract negative developments resulting from the so-called "slide effect" of jobs to Berlin.
