Anyone interested in finding out how polluted "broth" is turned back into clean water is welcome to visit the wastewater treatment plant on Weidenpeschweg on Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 10 am to 5 pm.
Wastewater disposal is a modern service that is provided around the clock, 365 days a year. It only works thanks to the commitment of numerous people - in Bonn, that means more than 200 municipal employees. The necessary infrastructure of sewage treatment plants, sewers, pumping stations, storage tanks and electronics is extensive. At the same time, the conventional objectives of orderly wastewater disposal remain as relevant as ever: protecting people and animals from infection, protecting the environment from wastewater pollution, complying with drinking water regulations and draining rainwater from residential areas.
At the open day, all guests have the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of modern sewage treatment plant technology. Around 1.8 million cubic meters of wastewater are cleaned and treated in Duisdorf every year. The wastewater treatment plant team will explain the individual purification processes on site. In addition, several exciting information stands await visitors.
Interested parties can learn (almost) everything about wastewater treatment in Bonn and the operation of the Bonn sewer network on a tour of the individual treatment stages. And they can experience how gray "broth" is turned back into precious water.
