For historical reasons, the city of Bonn is more strongly characterized as a service location and less as a classic industrial or commercial location. Nevertheless, the skilled trades and manufacturing industry are of great importance to the local economy in terms of structural policy and employment.

A central goal of the city of Bonn is therefore to continue to provide these companies with attractive areas for settlement, expansion and relocation in the future. However, due to the limited space potential in the city, the need for commercial space often competes with residential space, office space and retail uses. In addition to the development of new commercial areas, there is therefore a particular focus on securing existing commercial areas and activating underused areas.

Bonn currently has a total of 18 business parks with a total area of around 445 hectares. These areas are characterized by high location stability and low fluctuation and are fully occupied. There are therefore currently no commercial sites available in municipal ownership.

Inthe medium term , however, around 28.7 hectares of additional commercial space potential will be developed in Bonn for the settlement or relocation of companies in the areas of production, trade and services. Of this, 16.5 hectares are owned by the city. However, these sites can only be marketed once the necessary planning law has been created. The municipal sites include

• The Pützchen office and business park with around 11.0 hectares,
• An expansion area on Hans-Herter-Strasse with around 2.5 hectares,
• A potential site in the Buschdorf business park on Kölnstraße/Schlesienstraße with an area of around 3.0 hectares.
