The association "Partnerschaft Bonn-Cape Coast e.V." was founded in November 2008. It has set itself the goal of establishing diverse contacts between the citizens of Cape Coast and Bonn on a civil society level, promoting mutual understanding, providing information about Cape Coast and the country of Ghana at information events, encouraging school partnerships and cooperation between universities in both cities, organizing cultural events and developing projects, for example in the fields of culture, education and tourism.

In 2009, the association organized a major cultural event followed by a panel discussion at the Brotfabrik in Bonn; in 2010, it supported a performance by the "Baobab Culture Troupe", a dance group of young people from Kissi near Cape Coast. The association also participates with stalls at events such as the Bonn Christmas market and the City of Bonn's International Encounter Festival.
