UNV - United Nations Volunteer Program

The United Nations Volunteer Program (UNV) is an organization of the United Nations that promotes global volunteerism for peace and development. Volunteering can change the pace and nature of development, benefiting both society as a whole and the individual volunteer. UNV contributes to peace and development by promoting volunteerism worldwide, encouraging partners to include volunteerism in their development programmes and mobilizing volunteers worldwide.

The Volunteer Program is headquartered in Bonn. However, UNV is active in about 130 countries, operates field offices in 86 countries and is represented worldwide through UNDP offices.

UNV succeeds in mobilizing over 7,700 volunteers nationally and internationally every year. The vast majority of volunteers (80 percent) come from developing or emerging countries; over 30 percent of volunteers are deployed in their own countries.
