City of Bonn

German UN city

Since 1996, Bonn has successfully rebranded itself as the German city of the United Nations and a place of international dialog on future issues. A visible symbol of this development is the Bonn UN Campus.

UN organizations, federal ministries and federal authorities, around 150 non-governmental organizations, scientific institutions, Deutsche Welle and the resident global players of the economy characterize the international location. The UN organizations operating in Bonn organize international conferences on their topics at the location every year.

The United Nations Climate Change Conference(COP 23) in November 2017 once again put Bonn in the spotlight as an international conference location.

UNO City success story

The establishment of the United Nations Volunteers Program in 1996 - and a little later the Climate Change Secretariat - marked the beginning of Bonn's development into the German city of the United Nations and a center for global issues of the future. The outward symbol of this development is the growing Bonn UN Campus in the heart of the former government district, which provides space for around 1,000 United Nations employees in Bonn.

To mark its 75th anniversary, the United Nations has initiated a global exchange on the role of international cooperation. What role does it play in building the future we want?

UN in Bonn: Shaping a Sustainable Future

The Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda are not only the core of the work of the UN organizations in Bonn, but also form the basis of Bonn's sustainability strategy.
