The establishment of a police station in a city center location contributes significantly to improving the objective security situation and the subjective feeling of security among the population. Close cooperation between the employees of the city administration and the police working in the joint contact point can also help marginalized social groups in the inner city area. In addition, ongoing trusting cooperation with the federal police (railroad police), Bonn's public utilities and independent welfare organizations is ensured.
This project, which was initially unique in North Rhine-Westphalia and involves cooperation between the city administration and the police, has proven its worth since its inception. Thanks to the early intervention of employees in dangerous situations on site, objective safety in social and security hotspots has been greatly improved.
New location for the station
At the beginning of 2017, the GABI police station had to move out of the rooms it had been using for many years next to the Klanggrund ("Bonner Loch") when demolition work began on the former southern superstructure.Until the move to the new location in the Cassius-Bastei, the GABI police station moved into temporary quarters at Maximilianstraße 32 opposite the main railway station, where it was also centrally located in the city center.
In July 2018, the Bonn City Center Joint Contact Point moved to its new location at Münsterstraße 18 in the Cassius-Bastei.
