Fire and rescue services cannot work effectively without the use of appropriate technology. Appropriate equipment must be procured, regularly inspected, maintained and repaired. From wrenches to 25-ton cranes: the Equipment and Technology department ensures that the equipment fits seamlessly into the operational concept, meets the requirements and complies with the standards and rules of technology. This requires close cooperation with the Emergency Services department and the Rescue Services department in order to be able to react quickly to any malfunctions and continuously develop the equipment.
Employees from the Equipment and Technology department also perform operational management functions in all three management levels of the fire department. This results in further important interlinking, as the technology used can be assessed directly. They also contribute their technical expertise to national and international committees in order to promote the further development of fire department equipment. For example, the fire and rescue services of the City of Bonn are represented on several standards committees of the German Institute for Standardization(DIN).
