City of Bonn

Working with children and young people

The quality of educational leisure activities for children and young people depends crucially on committed and well-trained staff. In addition to professionals, volunteers are also important for good youth work. The basics of working with young people are taught, among other things, in the training courses for the so-called Juleica (youth leader card).

In addition to providing advice and training, the Office for Children, Youth and Family also provides financial support for many youth work activities.

The administration team provides advice on support services for youth work.

Juleica

With the Juleica, the youth leader card, volunteers can prove their participation in qualified training.

Juleica qualification

Qualification course

The Office for Children, Youth and Family of the City of Bonn offers a JuLeiCa basic course once a year for future youth leaders and interested parties.

Who can take part?

The Juleica qualification is aimed at all people (aged 15 and over) who want to volunteer with children and young people in Bonn and take on responsibility.

Contents of the Juleica qualification

Whether in vacation camps, group lessons, projects or in an open youth work facility: young people and adults volunteer in child and youth work, take on responsibility and stand up for others. Once a year, the Office for Children, Youth and Family offers a qualification course to obtain the "Youth Leader Card (Juleica)".

The Juleica training qualifies, supports and strengthens volunteer work. The Juleica is a nationally standardized, official ID card for regular voluntary work in children and youth work.

The prescribed contents of the Juleica qualification include

  • Tasks and functions of the youth leader and the ability to lead groups,
  • Objectives, methods and tasks of youth work,
  • Legal and organizational issues of youth work,
  • Psychological and pedagogical principles for working with children and young people,
  • the risks associated with adolescence and
  • child and youth protection issues.

Furthermore, it is recommended that current topics of adolescence and youth work such as participation, gender roles and gender mainstreaming, migration background and intercultural competence, inclusion, international youth exchange and association-specific topics be made part of the training standards.
