Midwife outpatient clinic receives further funding

The City of Bonn will continue to support the Bonn Midwives Outpatient Clinic (Kölnstraße) association financially for another two years.

Mayor Katja Dörner welcomes the resolution passed by the Bonn City Council on June 20, 2024: "The evaluation of the first few months shows that a high proportion of women who would not seek midwife care during pregnancy and after birth have nevertheless found their way to the midwife outpatient clinic. This illustrates how important this service is for Bonn. The feedback from gynecologists in private practice and maternity clinics is also very positive. The midwife outpatient clinic is making a significant contribution to improving the strained obstetric care situation in Bonn."

Grants of 79,300 euros each are planned for 2025 and 2026; however, they are subject to the adoption of the budget statutes by the Council and their approval by the Cologne district government as the supervisory authority.

Since October 2023, women have been receiving prompt, competent help before and after birth at the midwife outpatient clinic on Kölnstraße. On the premises of the former St. Johannes Hospital, freelance midwives offer their services six days a week - including during off-peak hours on Wednesday afternoons, Saturdays and public holidays. They provide advice and treatment for complaints during pregnancy and care for mothers in the postpartum period and during breastfeeding.

The city of Bonn had already supported the facility at the start with start-up funding totaling 90,00 euros for the years 2023 and 2024. In 2023, the supporting association was selected as a suitable provider in the funding tender for a midwife outpatient clinic in Bonn. The service is intended to close gaps in care in Bonn and is based on a recommendation from the Obstetrics Round Table.
