The first training course for balcony scouts has been launched in the Beuel-Mitte climate district on the initiative of the Vilich-Müldorf citizens' association. These scouts provide neighbors with uncomplicated advice on site and provide free and active support with implementation.
Thomas Becker from the citizens' association is delighted: "With the balcony scouts, we want to help Bonn retain its role as Germany's balcony power plant capital and enable even more people to generate their own solar power at low cost."
An online information event will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025, at 8 p.m. for all interested Bonn residents who want to become balcony scouts. Registration is possible at www.bv-vilich-mueldorf.de/balkonscout-infoveranstaltung. (opens in a new tab)
What does a balcony scout do?
Balcony scouts visit people at home, take a look at the conditions on site, help them find a suitable place for the solar system and select the right technology - for example the module, the mounting and the storage tank. The balcony scouts also provide support with questions about regulations and financial subsidies. They can also help with questions about installation. A consultation usually lasts 30 to 60 minutes.
How are balcony scouts trained?
In spring 2025, two afternoons of training will be held for the balcony scouts by the citizens' association in Vilich-Müldorf. After the training, the balcony scouts will receive support during their first consultations. There are always contact persons who can help later on. No prior knowledge is required to take part. All important technical and manual skills are learned during the training.
Climate district and urban PV offensive are part of Bonn's 2035 climate plan
The city's PV offensive and the involvement of citizens in the goal of climate neutrality as part of the climate districts are part of Bonn's Climate Plan 2035. The Climate Plan was adopted by the City Council in March 2023 as a roadmap for a climate-neutral and liveable city of Bonn. Recommendations from the "Bonn4Future - Wir fürs Klima" (Bonn4Future - We for the climate) participatory process were also incorporated into the concept for the climate districts. One of the recommendations was to enable Bonn residents to "get started on their own doorstep".
