City of Bonn

Neighborhood management "Bad Godesberg-Nord - Unter der Godesburg" starts

The Council agrees that the City of Bonn will financially support the establishment of a temporary impulse neighborhood management for five years. The social coordination is carried out by the Bonn/Rhein-Sieg Workers' Welfare Association.

The neighborhood is the familiar living environment in which social networks are established and in which neighborhoods are lived and maintained. Neighborhood management can help with this. This serves as the first point of contact in the neighborhood and activates the residents in order to strengthen social cohesion and further develop the district. Bad Godesberg-Nord is now also to have a neighborhood management. The council has now agreed to launch the "Bad Godesberg-Nord - Unter der Godesburg" impulse neighborhood management project.

The project will be funded for five years. Almost 170,000 euros have been budgeted per year, starting in 2024. The project is to be run by the Bonn/Rhein-Sieg Workers' Welfare Association, as there are already very good networking structures in the district. The neighborhood comprises the entire statistical district 254 (Bad Godesberg-Nord) as well as parts of statistical district 251 (Bad Godesberg Zentrum) and, proportionally, the adjacent district of Godesberg Mitte.

In an analysis, the city of Bonn found that the social infrastructure did not meet the needs of the growing neighborhood. This was also confirmed in the neighborhood dialogue and during various district walks and inspections in the neighborhood.

In addition to very specific concerns about issues such as safety, cleanliness and order, it became clear that there is a lack of space for people to meet and socialize in the neighbourhood, for which offers for various target groups should be designed and implemented. The people in the neighborhood also lack a local meeting place where they can exchange ideas, get together and grow together. This should be available to local associations such as the "Wir unter der Godesburg" association and interested residents for identity-building activities, events and meetings. Such events can also be used to find new supporters for the neighborhood development process.

Other potential cooperation partners and potential users are very interested in neighborhood spaces, as a survey by the city of Bonn revealed: for example, counseling services for various target groups, meeting opportunities, voluntary neighborhood activities such as environmental activities, festivals, beautification campaigns, youth work or school social work.

The city of Bonn intends to rent and refurbish the building at Bonner Straße 17 for the temporary neighborhood management. As part of the construction project on the grounds of the Michaelschule, there may also be an opportunity to use the space in order to open up to the district and provide services for the neighborhood. The aim is to attract additional tenants, cooperation partners and institutions to the building, preferably with synergy effects.

In Bad Godesberg, the city of Bonn already has two systematic neighborhood management systems in Pennenfeld and Lannesdorf/Mehlem. Further information on this and the other districts of Neu-Tannenbusch, Auerberg and Macke-Viertel can be found at  www.bonn.de/quartiersmanagement. (opens in a new tab)
