Another Managing Director will take up his position at Müllverwertungsanlage Bonn GmbH (MVA) in the fall: the Bonn City Council has now approved Benedikt Stapper's contract. From November 1, 2024, the lawyer will manage the business alongside the current Managing Director Manfred Becker. Becker will retire at the end of 2025 due to his age. The joint transition phase will serve to transfer knowledge. Stapper's contract is for five years.
"The decision ensures that the management of MVA will pass seamlessly into new hands and that the outstanding expertise of current Managing Director Manfred Becker can still be incorporated into the handover and transformation process. For example, we are facing the major challenge of mastering the heating transition in Bonn. I am therefore delighted that we have been able to recruit such an accomplished expert as Benedikt Stapper for Bonn," says Mayor Katja Dörner.
Benedikt Stapper holds a Master of Laws and has been working successfully in municipal waste management since 1998. Initially at Entsorgung Dortmund GmbH and since 2000 at his current employer, GWA - Gesellschaft für Wertstoff und Abfallwirtschaft Kreis Unna mbH. He currently manages 60 employees across all divisions. He has also taken on various additional responsibilities. He is the sole director of GWA Kommunal AöR, part-time managing director of MVA Hamm Eigentümer-GmbH and part-time managing director of a project company for the construction of a solar plant.
Olaf Hermes, Chairman of the Management Board of Stadtwerke Bonn, says: "I am very pleased that we have found an experienced and accomplished successor for the management of Müllverwertungsanlage Bonn GmbH in Benedikt Stapper. Together with Manfred Becker, Mr. Stapper is taking over the fortunes of MVA at an exciting time - after all, we are planning to build a new waste-to-energy plant at the current site. We will then be able to recycle waste even more effectively."
