Beethoven's reception in popular reproduction graphics

"Just Postcards" was the title of the exhibition at the Ernst Moritz Arndt House, which focused on the reception of Beethoven through popular reproduction graphics. It drew on the museum's rich collection of picture postcards.

The depictions of Beethoven "in the cross-class mass medium of the picture postcard" (cf. Jutta Assel/Georg Jäger, Beethoven auf alten Postkarten, Goethezeitportal, 2014) were "widely disseminated" into the 20th century and thus contributed significantly to the mythification and almost "deification" of Beethoven.
