About this event:

Our guests can look forward to engaging insights into the scientific work at Fraunhofer IAIS and Fraunhofer SCAI. Following the presentations of both institutes, there will be exciting short presentations on current research topics in the fields of artificial intelligence and numerical simulation. Afterwards, a networking event in a relaxed atmosphere with food and drinks offers the opportunity to exchange ideas directly with our scientists.

About Fraunhofer SCAI:

The Fraunhofer Institute for Algorithms and Scientific Computing SCAI excels at combining expertise in mathematical and computational methods with domain-specific knowledge. It focuses on developing and implementing innovative algorithms in industrial practice, delivering substantial benefits to its customers and partners.

The ten business areas of Fraunhofer SCAI encompass the entire spectrum from research to customer-specific solutions: Bioinformatics, Optimization, Multiphysics, Fast Solvers, High-Performance Computing, Network Evaluation Technologies, Virtual Material Design, Numerical Data-Driven Prediction, Meshfree Multiscale Methods, and Computational Finance.

The institute maintains academic partnerships with the Institute for Numerical Simulation (INS), the Institute of Computer Science, and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Bonn. Furthermore, Fraunhofer SCAI collaborates with the Bonn-Aachen International Center for Information Technology (b-it), the Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg, University of Applied Sciences, and the Hochschule Koblenz, University of Applied Sciences, RheinAhrCampus.

Fraunhofer SCAI also operates a branch lab at the University of Bonn, located within the INS.

About Fraunhofer IAIS:

As part of one of the leading applied research organizations, the Fraunhofer Institute for Intelligent Analysis and Information Systems IAIS, based in Sankt Augustin/Bonn and Dresden, is one of the leading scientific institutes in the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning and Big Data in Germany and Europe. Around 380 employees support companies in the optimization of products, services, as well as in the development of new technologies, and processes, and new digital business models. Fraunhofer IAIS is shaping the digital transformation of our working and living environments: with innovative AI applications for industry, health, and sustainability, with forward-looking technologies such as large-scale AI language models or Quantum Machine Learning, with offers for training and education or for the testing of AI applications for security and trustworthiness.

The Fraunhofer IAIS is at the center of a strong research and transfer network: As one of four leading partners, Fraunhofer IAIS conducts cutting-edge research in the "Lamarr Institute for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence", which is part of Germany's AI strategy and is permanently funded by the Federal Government and the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. The direct transfer of research results, especially to small and medium-sized enterprises, is ensured, among other things, by the "KI.NRW Competence Platform": Fraunhofer IAIS leads KI.NRW as the central networking initiative of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia on the topic of artificial intelligence.

Furthermore, Fraunhofer IAIS coordinates the "Fraunhofer Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Alliance", which bundles the cross-sectoral expertise of more than 30 Fraunhofer institutes and provides specialists from enterprises with an established and comprehensive training program in data science and AI. In addition, there are many years of close cooperation in research with the University of Bonn and the "Bonn-Aachen International Center for Centre for Information Technology" (b-it), which is funded by the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, the University of Bonn, the RWTH Aachen, and the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences.

The Fraunhofer IAIS also plays a leading role in important projects and initiatives to promote Europe's digital sovereignty and the trustworthy and sustainable application of Artificial Intelligence. These include "OpenGPT-X" for the development of a large AI language model for Europe, "CERTIFIED AI" for the establishment of testing and certification procedures for AI technologies or the successful educational initiative "Roberta", which introduces young people to computer science in a playful way from school age.
