Brigitte Denkel, who was in charge of the project as an urban planner at the time, explains why the city council decided to plant this ornamental cherry.
The greening of city districts to improve the quality of life is an essential means of improving the living environment.
In Bonn's old town, the avenues of trees planted in the 1980s now attract a rush of (international) visitors every April. "The Japanese cherry blossoms, which form a beautiful cherry blossom tunnel in spring, are to blame.
Brigitte Denkel, who was working as an urban planner at the city planning office at the time and oversaw the project and the entire planning process, explains why the city council decided to plant these ornamental cherries. She also shows the numerous green spaces, playgrounds and attractively designed courtyards that were created in the course of the redesign.
The tour can be booked at Bonn-Information and online at bonnticket.de (opens in a new tab) (Tour C 11).
