The Sparkassenstiftung für internationale Kooperation is a joint institution of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe. It is mainly financed by the interest earned on the assets made available and by annual donations from the member institutions of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe. The implementation of international projects is supported by the BMZ, KfW, the EU and the World Bank, among others.

The task of the Sparkassenstiftung für internationale Kooperation is to advise and support the financial sector of Central and Eastern European countries as well as developing and emerging economies in their transformation into market-economy structures and in stabilization and structural reforms. The task of the consultancy is to accompany the process of institutional development of the partner institutions, primarily savings banks or similar institutions.

This is also intended to improve the partner institutions' ability to offer their customers, in particular the population and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), comprehensive and adequate financial services.
