Mayor Katja Dörner is delighted with the decision: "This is a milestone in the planning for the Kurfürstenbad. It is good that the plans presented by the administration have been well received and that this important project for Bad Godesberg is now on its way. With the new Kurfürstenbad, we want to strengthen school and club swimming, create swimming courses for children and offer citizens a great health pool with a sauna area. And it will be barrier-free and climate-neutral."
The next step is to award the contract to a general contractor who will be responsible for the further planning and construction of the Kurfürstenbad. The sports administration is also planning to present the current status to the citizens of Bad Godesberg at an information event in the fall of 2023.
The pool will be operated without fossil fuels and thus contribute to the goal of climate neutrality in Bonn by 2035. Subject to the implementation of the desired planning, construction of the new Kurfürstenbad is expected to be completed in mid-2027. Demolition of the old building is scheduled to begin in early 2024.
